Sense of Space

Residential

After living on a farm in Lancefield, the owners of this stunning property wanted to downsize while staying in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria. Daylesford is a beautiful country town and attracted them with all it has to offer. Having always lived with space around them, they were very fortunate to find a north facing building block on a hill, overlooking the township, and within easy walking distance of the main street.

The land on the hill lent itself to using large, glazed areas to make the most of the views, while also to reap the benefit of solar heat gain in winter. The architect employed to design their new home had previously designed their farm house more than 30 years ago, and he was very excited when the owners told him they wanted to use Paarhammer windows.

During their research for energy efficient windows and doors, the owners had come across Paarhammer and visited the factory to see how these products are made. They wanted to support a local business who in turn supports local jobs and suppliers. The timber used for the frames comes from Gippsland and the glass is also Australian made.

Windows and doors are a major part of this build, and the owners say that ‘these windows make the house’ and ‘visitors are always very impressed’. Several large lift-slide sliding doors, tilt & turn windows, fixed windows, highlight windows and a modern bay window have been custom made, all double glazed and in the Architectural Timber Range. All products were factory spray-painted with low-VOC stains in the colour of choice.

Builders often have their own suppliers, but the building company of this property - like many others over the more than 30+ years history of Paarhammer - was very happy to work with Paarhammer windows and doors, and the building process was completed without a hitch.

The architect’s wonderful sense of space combined with the owners’ impeccable taste, makes this a very special home where every part of the house and landscaped garden is used, and the glazed areas provide the perfect indoor-outdoor feel of openness and easy livability.
