Inspiration for the Forever House came from a 300 year old Moonah tree which takes centre-stage in the design by Bellemo & Cat Architects. The tree being so close to the building meant that this elevation needed to comply with bushfire attack level BAL-40. Easy to achieve with the tested and compliant Paarhammer ‘Bushfire Safe Range’ windows and doors, combined with Viridian PyroGuard 40 double glazing units. In addition to highly energy efficient windows and doors, the home has many sustainable features, including solar panels, a solar hydronic heat system, heat pumps for water, water tanks and fans. Paarhammer run their window manufacturing facilities sustainably, including their waste reduction system. All sawdust and offcuts are shredded and compressed into wood briquettes. No glue is used, only high pressure, and the outcome are briquettes with a density and heat output equal to Redgum. These briquettes are offered to the public in spud crates of around 800-900kg. They are suitable for all wood heaters, so why not stay warm this winter and do something for the environment at the same time. Get your box of wood-briquettes for just $83 per around 1m3 including GST. Pick-up only, please call 03 53681999

Windows with Quality Assurance

Windows and doors of a building carry many responsibilities and are used every day. They ensure inhabitants can get in and out of the building, and take in the view of a garden or the street, and allow light and fresh air to enter the rooms. But in the background they work hard as the link between inside and outside. Windows and doors must insulate from the heat or cold, reduce noise, provide security, and on top of that – also look good! These are many tasks all at the same time. Only those consumers who receive a quality product

We often get asked what to do with curtains or blinds when we make tilt and turn windows for our clients. Here are some possible answers including the latest in window furnishings. With a double or triple glazed Paarhammer window you should only need curtains or blinds for privacy and decoration, not for insulation to keep the cold or heat out. Having said that, it is always important to shade your windows from the summer sun with the best results achieved by external shading, especially on the western side of your home. In joking, the Australian salute or greeting is a wave of a hand in front of ones face. Why? Flies of course! They serve an important role in our eco system but are annoying and we generally don’t want them in the house. As Paarhammer windows open to the inside, we often get asked “what about a flyscreen?” The answer is easy - the flyscreen is fitted to the outside of the window or door. Depending on the product range, Paarhammer removable flyscreens are either made with a timber frame in the same colour as the outside of the window

New Building Regulations coming soon

At the recent conference of the Australian Windows Association (AWA), new upcoming building regulations were announced. Residential building requirement changes may be introduced in 2022. Architectural Window Hardware

No longer just a hinge and a lock The quality of window and door products is enhanced by hardware which seals against the elements, is easy to operate, while at the same time discouraging burglars. The tilt & turn hardware fittings feature the flexibility of two opening positions. The sash will swing inward - casement style - when opened in the turn position. Alternatively, hinges at the bottom and a tilting arm at the top allow it to open inward at the top like a hopper window (tilt). Both actions are activated by the turn of the handle, a smooth
